A short and sweet post.

I stayed with my best friend last week and the first thing her children, who are my goddaughters, wanted to do was demonstrate their party pieces.

What a pleasure it was to listen to one being a comic and observant mimic with a real sense of performance, as she wickedly took off a patronising grown-up or two.

The other very great pleasure was to listen to the other playing her Grade I piano piece and applaud sincerely, instead of just watching her little fingers and clapping politely.

Isn’t it lovely to be a willing Auntie audience?
